Back in December I bought some rim tape off eBay for my bike. Since it is rather cold in December I couldn't put them on when I got them, and had to wait till it warmed up a bit so they would adhere properly. Then when it got warm, I got busy and didn't have time to put them on.Since I can't really do much with my arm the way it is, I thought I'd tackle this project today. They aren't physically difficult to install, just time consuming. There was a total of 20 strips on 2 sheets, which gave me 4 extra if I screwed up.
So I started by cleaning the lip of the rim extremely well. Rims get terribly dirty with dirt, dust, and street grim, and they aren't fun to clean. I used WD-40 to cut the grease, then washed all the WD-40 off (as it actually attracts dirt to it) with some de-greaser, then just used some Windex and water to finish it off. At that point they were as clean as they were going to be.
After the cleaning, I started putting the tape on. It went pretty slow at first, but after the first few, I got the hang of it. It took about an hour to get all 16 strips on the rims, and I only had to re-do 1 one of those 16 strips!
Here is the finished product!
I'm very pleased with the turn out. I think it looks great. Best Rim Job ever!
